On the 3rd of September 2013, would be by far the most surprising, exciting, horrifying and shocking day of our lives. It is the day that we found out that we were having twins. These little muchkins are our first and so while getting the ultra sound done and not really knowing what we were looking at it, I though it was a great move, that the sonographer was doing a very thorough job in double checking all the measurement and making sure that it is our tiny human being and it is alive and kicking. Rohan, on the other hand was thinking along the lines that there is two in there, but forgot to tell me.
The sonographer then paused the screen with this picture on there and said “say hello to your twins”. I had to repeat that back to him, “Twins?!?!” “yes, Twins you are having two babies and they are about 7 weeks along”. OMG now this was a shock, we left the hospital, looking dazed and talking bout that is double of everything, double the clothes, nappies, pram, car seats, OMG!!!
First thing we had to do was arrange the OB here and then tell our parents. With Rohan’s parents, we texted them to say that everything is fine and the heartbeatS are strong. They didn’t pick it up at first but after a couple more text they did finally pick it up and called us while we were at my folks. With my parents, it was great to show them our first family shots. They weren’t too sure at what they were looking at and could only see one, even though there is 1 and 2 on the picture. We kept on having to tell them that look again and have a good look at it. Well, they were over the moon, mum was onto getting prams straight away and Dad got Rohan onto the Blue label scotch. I had to settle for water, but that was ok.
The one thing that you can see on the ultrasound picture is that the babies look like baby turtles. So with this we nicknamed them the Turtles. At least it was something different to bean or peanut. They were our turtles.
It probably took 2 weeks for me to get over the shock of the whole having twins, two babies, duo, having to push out two babies, OMG!!! but after friends of ours found out that we were and Sam had the same reaction as I did, it then seemed fine and an exciting time for us.
So over then next couple of week, we kept tight lip on telling everyone, My dad was still celebrating and telling everyone “not 1 but 2” as well as doing the fingers to it, and no one had a clue on what he was talking about. We wanted to keep it all a secret until I told my brother on his 30th Birthday bash in Melbourne. We spent an extra week in Vic to stay with Rohan’s parents and when we got home, this pregnancy will become the biggest and toughest test of our lives/relationships.
